LEAF & MOSS Guard 100% FREE - The Best Dirt Trap to STOP Blocked Gutters & Pipes
All Files Free on Thingiverse : www.thingiverse.com/thing:6132321
After many years in the roofing trade and having cleaned out for over 35 years, I consider this to be on balance the best way to "stop" blocked pipes and overflowing guttering. Potentially saving masses of waste and money. Dirt, moss and tree leaves can quickly overwhelm traditional on the market solutions, this is my version.
I think this is a commercial grade product superior to anything else on the market if fitted correctly and probably the only thing I would consider fitting myself.

Removing a Chimney Below Roof Level - How to
I have to say you're extremely thorough with your videos. I'm going to be replacing my felt roof with a fibreglass based on your excellent instructions. Please, please post more tutorials if you can - they're extremely relevant and simplicity to follow. Many thanks for your hard work.
Great to see you back. Always very informative videos, love the channel, big help on the roofing side
I love your videos! I wish you could come and fix my seemingly impossible to fix slate roof leak (we’ve had 6 roofers over a decade, and it still leaks). But - back to gutters - why do we even need a gutter guard like this at all? Surely it is better to leave it open at the top - so there is far less chance of it getting blocked - and then you can simply scoop moss etc out of the grid at the bottom, without needing to go up a ladder?
Where you been sir I was waiting for your video from long time Please make more videos ❤
Where've you been?
Hi can I ask you something about fiberglass please
Yes, but in all honesty I do not see the comments here because I dont log in very often.
Hi - love your videos - really well explained. I think your based near Milton Keynes - do you know any good GRP roofers near Manchester by any chance?
Apologies I do not log in to RUclips much to comment, but no I dont, sorry
I want to thank you for your informative video How to Install Leaf Roof Flashings but comments are turned off. I welcome your tips on how to install lead roof flashing to pebbledash inbetween first-floor sliding doors which open onto a timber balcony mounted to the house with a timber frame with no flashings. Currently we have a water leak above our French doors which open underneath the balcony. Hope you can help? Having very little success!
Sorry but I cannot give meaningful advice over the internet. It may be wrong.
Welcome back mate Damn i missed ur high quality educating videos
Very glad to see you posting a new video! Your other videos are so useful. As to your product, I hope it does work but I've been cleaning gutters for close to 10 years now and I can't see much of anything be able to solve a blocked gutter. Regardless it's a big improvement compared to the usual ones!
You have a natural talent for teaching. Best of luck with the guard
hi, do you have any advice for someone who wants to start roofing as a career change, i dont really have the time to do college so i was thinking about starting small and growing my skills over time on the job many thanks!
Yes, go and work for a roofer / roofing company if possible and watch and learn. Always be open to new ideas and use you own judgement. Good luck
Excellent video's mate Really appreciate your help and guidance
Welcome back, brilliant product. Your videos are the best by far on YT for roofing.
Your videos are very clear and easy to understand for a DIY enthusiast like myself. Could you possibly do a video on the correct method to convert a roof with wet verge to a plastic dry verge system. Thank you.
No plans at the moment for any more videos. Sorry
@@FixmyroofCoUk Not a problem. thanks for the reply.🙂
Great vid. Nice to see your still about. Can you do some more posts you were by far the most interesting roofer on RUclips 👍
No plans for more videos yet. Sorry
You are a genius This is brilliant. As a janitor I have improvised chicken wire balloons but I never stopped to think of the detail. This is elegant. I hope you have intellectual property or registered design covered.
Thanks, as a janitor you will understand exactly where I'm coming from then. I have contacted some manufacturers and still waiting to hear back from them. Reading through these comments there is clearly a demand for such a product because people are requesting in the comments. Even in this very small sample group admittedly. Links to files in the video description if you need them.
good idea mate- what about if I have water butts directly from the gutters? That means much of the gunk will be in my water butts? Any solutions for this situation please?
Normally the pipe joint and water splitter needs occasional cleaning (been there done that) but I have no plans for re-designing that component. Sorry pal
Promo sm 🤗
Good to see you are still around. I'm hoping to fix a slate on my roof, wish there were good roofers like you near me. Is there a training place to learn ?
My dad taught me pretty much everything I know about traditional roofing. Honestly I don't know these days. Sorry
@@FixmyroofCoUk well that's cool... You have helped many people because of him.
I don't have a 3D printer, are you planning on printing and selling these? We've tried a couple of designs and have found all the problems you describe!
You can get 3D printing on the internet but I don't know how much it costs, probably too much for what it would cost. I can only say if enough people approach the guttering firms they may make a commercial version. Sorry, I do not have the facilities to make these.
Welcome back
Thanks
But it still can block your drain which flows away ?
There is no 'perfect' solution to problem guttering / roofs. I do know it will stop large debris blocking the pipe and allow small to medium parts pass through. So less cleaning and no blocked pipes on balance. They would be very cheap to make compared to more expensive solutions and do less environmental harm. All the benefits are in the video if you can put up with my voice ;-)
I can’t believe my eyes. you post again!
Like a bad smell with a grating voice 😁
Wow ! great to see you back!
A very useful item. It's one of those self explanatory items that you think "it's so simple, why didn't someone think of this years ago?" Good to see you back at last!
Thanks
Great idea, when you planning on selling some.. I don’t have the printer :( but would buy some..
Hopefully someone will roll with the idea. Send the video link to any of the large guttering makers. Flowplast are a good firm.
How many do you need? I have 3 printed in a semi tough flexible resin. Ideally I'd like to keep one, but you can have all 3 if you need them. email me (in 'about' section on RUclips channel)
Nice to see a video from you again! 😁 Gutter guards have been great for me, after 15 years I've never cleaned them & my gutters are always spotless. That said I don't have any trees overhead & for some strange reason moss doesn't really seem to grow much up there, possibly because it's an East West roof so no shade?
This is another example of a product working as long as the roof isn't overwhelmed with moss or leaves. I'm sort of aiming my solution at those roofs. Thanks for sharing your experience with the alternatives and how they worked for you. It helps build up a better overall picture for anyone reading the comments with problems. Obviously I only get called out to problem roofs.
Great to see you back - FloPlast do a very good Leaf/Debris Interceptor Gully that I highly recommend called the FloPlast Leaf/Debris Interceptor Gully. It would likely require more installation cost than your solution though would likely be cheaper than the other methods mentioned in your video but once installed all the filtering is done at ground level and the filter basket can be easily emptied by anyone and no need to go up a set of ladders or pay someone to. I have had mine for several years now and it is very good and easy to check and empty especially after the recent storms where a lot of moss can be washed down off the roof. Very good of you to offer your solution for free, hopefully we see you back posting videos as they were always excellent!
Thanks for sharing. It looks a good product, my only criticism is a little too much filtering again for problem gutters in my opinion. I would see my solution priced at about £5 commercially 👍🏻
@@FixmyroofCoUk I find it can block up during/after a very heavy downpour when a lot of moss etc is washed off the roof but with it being at ground level it is quick and easy to empty out with no cost of getting someone in to do so nor health and safety risk of going up ladders. You could reduce the filtering of the item by snipping out some of the sections of the filter basket to increase the gap sizes but obviously that isn't ideal. Overall I have been very happy with the ones I installed retrospectively when buying my property and find it easy to check and empty as needed whenever walking past, you just lift up the flap to see the filter basket and lift out the filter basket to empty. As my roofs drain into soakaways I prefer to filter out as much as is reasonably possible so as to minimise the amount of debris getting into the soakaways, while not having gutters constantly blocking. If I were to opt for an in gutter filtering system I think your item is a better design than those currently on the market. I tried the existing ones like your design before installing the interceptor gullies but after one winter I removed them all as I found I was having to constantly fetch out the ladders and go up and clear the blocked gutters. Being able to do all the filtering at ground level is such much easier, quicker and most importantly for me, safer.
Why not just leave it open completely?
Because on problem roofs with big leaves (lots of trees) or large chunks of moss the pipe can get blocked quickly. But yes, if you do not have a problem, NO filter is the best option in my view and my default solution. What we are talking about here is problem areas and roofs. Its a very large amount of people.
@@FixmyroofCoUk it's gonna block quicker if there is something blocking it. The fact is,the bigger the hole the less it gets blocked. Imagine a 4" hole for your downspout do you think it would get clogged more or less than a 3" hole? Now how about a 2 inch hole or 1 inch hole, it's gonna catch bits and clog it.
@@smeghead420typical armchair 'expert' 😂😂
I've had new gutters fitted last October and had a wire mesh fitted to the top of the downpipe , 3 times I've had to call out because guttering was overflowing. On the 3rd time asked for mesh to be removed so water a debris can flow freely. What's your thoughts pal?
See how you get on without the mesh as an A - B test. As long as the fall (slopes) are correct all gutters should self clean to some degree, unless you have excess moss or leaves. If you have problems feel free grab the files or see what others are using in the comments.
This redesign of the classic gutter / pipe guard is absolutely free to anyone who wants to make, print, adapt or manufacture. The Thingiverse link is in the description to share and use as you like. If you want to see a commercial version, why not send the video link (share button) to any of the large guttering manufactures like Flowplast or similar. Love and kisses... Uncle Fix My Roof 😉♥
Nice solution, you are absolutely bang on with the standard/traditional guards.
Thanks.
Nice to see you back. Still brilliant.
Thanks bro
Your videos have helped me greatly. Thank you very much and best wishes.
Really glad any of my videos have helped anyone. Thanks 👍🏻
I'm no roofer , and can only speak about my own gutters. Last time I went up was 10 years ago ..lol. And I fitted those screwfix guards , ( cos I found a tennis ball perfectly lodged in one pipe ...🙄) I went up this year. April, and I found the moss had just stayed where it fell , and never accumulated/ or washed to the guard . Cos tbf a wet moss clump is quite a mass . The fall , might not perfect, I agree. But I never have issue with overtopping. Good vid, I might go up again , to review your observations 🤙.
Everyone has a different roof and experience I know. Obviously I only get called out when there IS a problem (optimum conditions for debris maybe), but my observations are always the same.
Nice one! Great to see you back after so long 👍
Thanks
Good to see you posting again on YT. Thanks
